Hardness

It is worth choosing a harder species of wood rather than a softer one for areas where hard wear is expected: children playing, pets, stiletto heels, a busy entrance hall. The hardness of different wood species can be compared in the Technical specification section.

Correct storing of packages

It is advisable to transport and store the packages in a horizontal position. Placed vertically or on an uneven surface, they may bend or even crack. Check the packages before installation for possible transportation or other damages.

Lengthy storage periods create certain requirements for humidity and temperature during storage. They should remain level throughout the storage period. The storage temperature of 15-24 °C and a relative humidity (RH) of air indoors of 40 - 60% are acceptable values. (A cold outdoor warehouse is thus not suitable for storage.) Before installation, the hardwood planks should be adjusted to the conditions in the room where they are to be installed for 1 - 2 weeks.

Tonal changes in the hardwood floor

Since wood is a natural material, its tone will slightly change over time because of the UV radiation from the sun. The change takes place in the wood surface. However, Upotop coatings and EcoTop oils do not change their tone.

Oak, Red Oak, Birch, Beech, Maple and Ash acquire yellowish tones.

Heat-treated Baroque and Antique floors become lighter.

Jarrah, Merbau, Cherry, Rose Gum, Kempas and Walnut acquire darker and deeper tones.
Cherry may alter more quickly when exposed to sunlight, for example, a rug will leave a darker area on the hardwood flooring when removed. In time, the tone will, however, settle according to the surrounding surface.

Upofloor hardwood flooring is safe

All Upofloor hardwood floors have been granted the M1 label which indicates minimal emissions. Studies have shown that they do not emit any harmful substances into the atmosphere.

Building materials are divided into three categories, of which M1 is the best. Upofloor hardwood floors are examined in an objective test laboratory and they meet the requirements set for the M1 class.

Upotop varnish does not contain solvents or formaldehyde. Treated with vegetable oils and waxes, an EcoTop hardwood floor is naturally clean and safe for people and pets, as it contains no synthetic substances.
